Augusta Akerman is a freelance Illustrator and surface pattern designer currently living and working in London. After Graduating from the Glasgow School of Art in 2008 with a BA Hons in Fine Art Photography she has previously worked as a Set Decorator and Graphic Designer for film and advertising before studying for an MA in Illustration at Camberwell College of Art in 2013.
Her work combines a classic illustrative style with a looser abstract sense of design. She works with a variety of materials including ink, collage and various printmaking techniques. She also works with textiles and wallpapers transferring her illustrations to silk and cotton, exploring a range of subjects that include climate change and the migrations of animals and the hand of the artist.
Since 2014 she has been selected to take part in Creative Oulet, an annual showcase of emerging UAL talent as well as being commissioned by the South London Botanical Institute to produce a bespoke wallpaper. More recently she has completed an artist residency at the London Print Studio and was nominated as a 'One to Watch' in the Homes & Gardens Fabric Awards.
Augusta also teaches 'Drawn to Digital' an illustration short course she has developed for Chelsea Collage of Art in London.
